When it comes to achieving that perfect, radiant glow, two products often come to mind: the Dior Forever Glow Star Filter and the e.l.f. Halo Glow Liquid Filter. Both are popular in their own right, but they cater to different needs and preferences. Here’s a closer look at how they stack up against each other.

Dior Forever Glow Star Filter

The Dior Forever Glow Star Filter is the epitome of luxury. From its high-end packaging to the exquisite shimmer it imparts, everything about this product screams sophistication. The formula is smooth and blends effortlessly and I like the pump top bottle for ease of application. The shimmer particles are incredibly fine, giving your skin a beautiful, subtle glow without looking overdone.

This is where it falls down a little bit - subtle really is the key word here. It's very nice but I feel like I have to layer it up to try and get that dewy effect that e.l.f Halo Glow gives instantly.

I didn’t intend to buy it when I did, but while purchasing the Dior Forever Skin Glow Foundation (a planned purchase) at the airport, the sales associate let me try both. The lovely shimmer won me over, and I bought on impulse, despite already owning and adoring the e.l.f. Halo Glow. As I was about to travel I only tried it on my wrist. Maybe if I'd had time to test on my face I might not have purchased. I could be fooling myself here because I love a bit of pre -holiday shopping!

So to conclude this product is definitely luxury at a price. The Dior Forever Glow Star Filter is expensive for an illuminating filter when there's a number of similar products on the market that start from around £15. I think I paid around £45 for a 30 ml bottle at the Dior counter in the airport (maybe less due to duty free) but I noticed today that both boots.com and johnlewis.com are currently selling it for £38.25. This price point brings it in line with the Hollywood Flawless Filter by Charlotte Tilbury. Not a product I have ever tried personally, but one I know is highly regarded by many. However, on the basis of brand and reputation I think I'd rather spend that amount on Dior because there is something a little bit special about Dior make up.

e.l.f. Halo Glow Liquid Filter

The e.l.f. Halo Glow Liquid Filter has become a cult favorite, and for good reason. This product delivers a dewy, youthful glow that can make even the most tired skin look refreshed and radiant. It’s incredibly affordable, making it accessible to a wide range of beauty enthusiasts. The formulation is fantastic, providing a natural-looking glow without emphasising fine lines or texture.

While the packaging might not be as high-end as Dior’s, the performance of e.l.f. Halo Glow is impressive. It’s a versatile product that can be used as a primer, mixed with foundation, or applied on top as a highlighter. For me, e.l.f. Halo Glow edges out Dior not just because of the significant price difference but also due to its superior formulation. It retails at around £15 for a 31.5 ml bottle.

The only negative thing I have to say about Halo Glow is that I'm not keen on the applicator - it doesn't seem to work optimally when trying to get the product out of the bottle. It's a minor thing though and honestly they could put Halo Glow in the cheapest, most unappealing packaging ever and I would still keep buying - because it really is that good.

Final Thoughts

Both the Dior Forever Glow Star Filter and the e.l.f. Halo Glow Liquid Filter are excellent products that deliver.

Dior Star Filter feels incredibly luxurious to own and offers a lovely shimmer, making it a treat to use. However, its high price point makes it a splurge item and the return on investment is minimal once you realise it's not the very best of what's available. On the other hand, e.l.f. Halo Glow provides a fantastic glow at a fraction of the cost, with a formulation that I find better overall and one that continues to look great hours after application.

I’m not unhappy with my Dior purchase and will use it until it's empty, but when it comes time to repurchase a filter, I’ll be saving my pennies and going with e.l.f. Halo Glow. Its success is a testament to the fact that sometimes, the best products don’t have to break the bank.

What are your thoughts on these products? Have you tried both, or do you have a favourite?
